Billing integrity and revenue assurance

Find the money your billing is leaking, and stop it

Exceptions nobody clears, accounts that never bill, estimated reads that never get trued up, prepayment balances drifting out of line. For a supplier these are not operational noise, they are cash and regulatory risk. We find them, size them and fix them, and we have recovered a £160m imbalance doing exactly that.

Where it leaks

Billing problems hide in the exceptions queue until they reach the accounts

Every supplier runs an exceptions queue: industry data flows that failed validation, meter reads rejected, changes of tenancy left half done, accounts stuck between registration and billing. Individually each one is a task. Collectively they are unbilled revenue, estimated bills that invite complaints, settlement errors that cost money twice, and a back billing clock that writes the revenue off at twelve months. After a migration the queue can double overnight, and the gap between what was billed and what was collected is where the real damage sits.

What we do

Three ways we stop the leak

Exception and backlog recovery

A sized, prioritised attack on the exceptions and unbilled backlog: which categories carry the money, which are racing the back billing limit, and a recovery plan with the resource and controls to clear it and keep it clear.

Imbalance investigation and revenue assurance

When billed, collected and settled do not reconcile, we find out why, size the exposure for the board and the regulator, and run the correction, from configuration and data through to customer remediation.

Billing migration assurance

Before and after a platform migration, the controls that stop exceptions and imbalances being created in the first place: reconciliation gates, acceptance checks and a clear line of ownership on the supplier's side of the table.

Track record

We have done this at the sharp end

For a large UK energy supplier we root caused and recovered a billing imbalance of more than £160m that emerged after a migration onto a new billing platform, and did it before it became a regulatory or shareholder problem. Behind that sit £249m of Kraken migration programmes, the first water migration onto Kraken, and nineteen years of billing and finance systems delivery, with no ties to any platform vendor.

How we work

Money first, tickets second

Every exception category sized by the cash attached and the clock it is racing
Root cause fixed in configuration and process, not just the backlog worked down
Evidence prepared the way a regulator and an auditor will read it
Independent of every billing platform vendor
Common questions

Billing integrity, answered

How quickly can you size our exposure?

Usually within a few weeks. We work from the exception, unbilled and settlement reports you already produce, categorise them by cash at risk and by how close they are to the back billing limit, and give the board a number it can act on.

Do you need access to our billing platform?

Read access and reports to start. We work alongside your platform team on whichever system you run; the fixes that matter are usually in process, data and configuration ownership, and those belong to you, not to the vendor.

Is this only for suppliers on Kraken?

No. Exceptions and imbalances build up on every billing platform, and the controls that stop them being created matter most before and during a migration, whatever you are moving to.

What about industry data flow exceptions specifically?

Registration, meter read and settlement flows that fail validation are the usual root of the queue. We categorise them by the money attached, clear the ones that pay, and fix the process so the same failures stop recurring.

Can you help if the regulator is already involved?

Yes. We prepare the evidence, the sizing and the remediation plan that a regulator expects to see, and we run the correction. We are not your lawyers, and we work with them when it comes to that.
