The problem

Most transformations change the system and leave the business where it was

A new ERP, a new billing platform or a new structure is announced as a transformation, and eighteen months later the organisation is doing the same work in a more expensive way. Business transformation is the harder job: changing the operating model, the processes, the roles and the measures together, with the technology as one part of the plan rather than the whole of it.

We act as the client side business transformation consultant. We shape the case, design the target state, run the programme and stay accountable until the benefits are in the accounts.

What we do

Three ways we work with you

Shape the transformation

Strategy into a programme: the case for change, the target operating model, the sequencing and the governance, costed and owned before anyone signs a vendor contract.

Run it

Programme and change leadership from mobilisation to go live and beyond: the PMO, the workstreams, the vendors and the business readiness, with the hard conversations had early.

Recover or assure it

An independent view when a transformation is drifting, or a standing assurance role for the board so the programme is challenged by someone with no stake in its continuation.

How it works

Fixed scope, named people, no tools to sell

Every engagement starts with a short diagnostic that produces a plain written view of where the transformation stands and what it will take. From there we agree a fixed scope and a fixed fee, name the people who will do the work and report to your board in the same words we use with you.

We hold no reseller agreements or commissions with any software vendor, so when we recommend a platform, a partner or a pause, it is because it is right for you.

Process

Business process improvement that is measured, not described

Business process improvement is where most transformations earn their keep. We map the processes that matter end to end, measure them in time, cost, error and effort, remove the steps that exist only because a system once needed them and design the new process before anyone configures software to run it. Lean and process mapping methods are tools in that work, not the point of it. The test is a number that moved: cost to serve, days to close, exceptions per thousand, hours returned to the team.

Common questions

Business transformation, answered

What is business transformation consultancy?

Help to change how an organisation works, end to end: strategy, operating model, processes, people, data and technology, delivered as a programme with measurable outcomes. A business transformation consultant designs the change and, in our case, runs it, rather than handing over a strategy for someone else to deliver.

How is it different from digital transformation?

Digital transformation starts from the technology and asks what it makes possible. Business transformation starts from the outcome the business needs and treats technology as one lever. In practice most programmes need both, and the failures usually come from treating a technology change as if it were the whole transformation.

How long does a business transformation take?

A focused transformation of one function typically takes nine to eighteen months. An enterprise wide programme with a new operating model and new core systems runs two to three years, delivered in stages that each release value. Anything promised faster is usually a systems project with a new name.

What does it cost?

Our day rate is fixed and set out on our pricing page, and most engagements are scoped as fixed fee phases so the cost is known before we start. The diagnostic that opens every engagement is short and priced as such.

Do you work with SMEs or only large organisations?

Both. The method scales down well: a mid sized firm gets the same diagnostic, the same fixed scope and a smaller team, and the independence matters even more when there is no internal transformation office to challenge the vendors.

What is business transformation?

Business transformation is a fundamental change to how an organisation works, such as its operating model, processes, technology, structure or culture, to achieve a step change in performance rather than incremental improvement.

What do transformation consultants do?

Transformation consultants help an organisation make a large change to how it operates: setting the target operating model, planning and leading the programme, and making sure the benefits are delivered rather than just promised. Ours are senior people who have led major programmes themselves.
