NetSuite vs Sage Intacct: which suits your business?

Both are cloud financial systems for growing organisations, and both appear on most mid market shortlists. They are built around different ideas. This guide sets out the real differences so you can shortlist on fit rather than on the strength of a demo.

The short answer

Choose Sage Intacct if finance is the main reason you are changing system and you need strong multi entity consolidation and dimensional reporting, with operations handled by specialist systems around it. Choose NetSuite if you want one platform across finance, inventory, orders, ecommerce and CRM, and you are prepared to pay for that breadth.

Questions that settle the choice

  1. Is the problem mainly in finance, or across order to cash and stock?
  2. How many entities, currencies and tax regimes do you run, and how often do you add new ones?
  3. Which specialist systems will stay, and how good are they?
  4. Who will own the system after go live, and what skills do they have?
  5. What will the subscription look like in year four, after the first renewal?

Other options worth a look

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central suits organisations invested in Microsoft 365. Acumatica prices on resources rather than users, which helps businesses with many occasional users. Sage 200 remains an option for UK businesses that want to stay with Sage but do not need Intacct’s multi entity strengths.

Common questions

Is Sage Intacct an ERP?

It is usually described as cloud financial management software. It covers core finance well and adds modules for purchasing, order entry, inventory and projects, but it is not a full operational suite in the way NetSuite is.

Which is better for multi entity groups?

Both handle multiple entities. Finance teams often prefer Sage Intacct for consolidation and dimensional reporting; NetSuite OneWorld suits groups that also share stock and order processes across entities.

Can I move from Sage 50 or Sage 200 to Sage Intacct?

Yes, but it is a reimplementation rather than an upgrade, so plan for data migration, chart of accounts redesign and testing.

Is NetSuite more expensive than Sage Intacct?

For finance only scopes the gap can be small. NetSuite costs more as you add operational modules and users, but it may replace other systems too, so compare total cost over five years.
